The native houstonian Frank Matta began his music making journey at the age of 11 years old when his father purchased a set of drums for him. He learned to play drums by practicing along with the classic rock tunes of the day and lessons from a good friend who was a drummer. He also learned to play guitar and studied piano/music theory in junior high and high school. He sought out instruction from other musicians and guitar instructional resources.
Much of his formative years were spent playing in churches and in different gospel bands. His own family band Dunamis was one of those he spent much time playing guitar in. In the mid 1980's Frank was recruited by the Cruse as a guitarist for the contemporary Christian band, He went on the road with the band and artist Tim Miner performing at a variety of christian music festivals, concerts and churches. Even after touring with Cruse he continued to hone his craft and perform with local musicians.
In 1996 he returned to San Jacinto Junior College as a Music Major and two years later was accepted into the University of Houston Moores School of Music also as a Music Major. While there he performed as a guitarist for the University of Houston Jazz Orchestra. He studied guitar with classical guitarists Jeremy Garcia and Rosendo Reyna. His guitar professor at University of Houston was Mike Wheeler. His final studies led him to Concordia University in Austin where he graduated in 2006 with a Bachelors Degree in Music Ministry. At Concordia he was a member of the university choir and played guitar in the jazz ensemble.
